About Me
Hi there! My name is Michelle Johnston, and I'm a 19 year old artist based in Toronto, Canada. While I'm currently studying nursing at Trent University, I've been finding my way back to painting and creating art.

Working primarily with acrylic paint and oil pastels, I create surrealist paintings inspired by dreams, emotions, and reflection. My work explores themes of identity, violence, trauma, innocence, corruption, and rebellion, using symbolism to blur the line between the familiar and the impossible. I'm drawn to creating images that encourage viewers to look beyond first impressions, sit with uncertainty, and discover their own interpretations.

Influenced by artists like René Magritte, Salvador DalÃ, Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, and Elliott Wair, I see painting as both a form of storytelling and a way of asking questions that don't always have clear answers. Rather than offering explanations, I hope my work invites curiosity, conversation, and reflection.

Although I'm open to commissions and hope to offer prints in the future, my
current focus is on expanding my body of work, developing my artistic voice, and
continuing to grow creatively. Thank you for being here; I hope you'll follow along
as I continue this journey of self-expression !
